Grief and Bereavement

Grief is a normal reaction after a loss/death. However in some cases it can become extreme causing severe devastation in the life of the bereaved. The grief can be overwhelming, affecting work and relationships and daily life. Unresolved issues with the deceased parents/partners can hinder the grieving process and the bereaved may experience anger, rejection, guilt and loss of control, resulting in anxiety attacks and other stress related symptoms.

"The sadness in you is no longer without a name and has found its voice. When sorrow finds a name and a voice, it is like the lightning you see calling and the thunder speaking after it to say that soon the rain will fall on you again."
Laurens Van der Post (A Far-off Place)

Bereavement counselling aims to help people adjust to life without the deceased, be it a family member, partner or friend. To support the bereaved through the grieving process, helping them to express their feelings and embrace their grief. Some feelings may only have arisen since the death of a loved one. Counselling helps those suffering regain control over their lives despite the heartbreak they have suffered. Integrating their grief, so as they are free to live their own lives without restrictions.
