For those who have suffered abandonment the loss is just as disruptive and painful as it is for any type of grief because it can often involve feelings of intolerable rejection
which can cut to the core of one's very being.
“Everyone has left me except my muse,
That good nurse……”
Virginia Woolf
Closure is incomplete because the person has not died, but, instead has chosen not to be with you. Rejection, withdrawal of love, criticism, and desertion create a devastating personal trauma. 'Being left' can threaten the very core of our security. We lose not only our loved one, we lose our sense of self and all that we invested of ourselves in the relationship.
”Sometimes, when one person is missing
the whole world feels depopulated.”
Lamartine
